Once I heared someone sayed on the radio ” Every song has its own story. ” The story may be about the writer’s or the singer’s living, under what circumstances he writed this song, or how this song meant to the singer’s career. But to me, it’s quite personal stuff about what a song means and what’s stand behind the song.
When I studied in NCCU ten years ago, I got a part-time job in a supermarket. I worked there for almost two years. The boss in the department I worked was quite a young man, who was fond of roll’n rock music and the record albums he had were roughly more than five hundred. When we worked together, he used to get the CD player for the store to play various kind of roll’n roll music. At the same time, he told everything he knowns about the songs and the bands. I was then getting bored about pop music, and tried get myself some music that was quite different one. So I borrowed lot of albums from my boss. Most of the bands he mentioned about I still remenber now. Of all bands, there is one band that is my boss’s favorite – Bruce Springsteen:
Bruce Springsteen – Bobby Jean
Well I came by your house the other day
Your mother said you went away
She said there was nothing that I could have done
There was nothing nobody could say
Me and you we`ve known each other ever since we were sixteen
I wished I would have known
I wished I could have called you
Just to say goodbye Bobby Jean
Now you hung with me when all the others turned away, turned up their nose
We liked the same music, we liked the same bands, we liked the same clothes
We told each other that we were the wildest
The wildest things we`d ever seen
Now I wished you would have told me
I wished I could have talked to you
Just to say goodbye Bobby Jean
Now we went walking in the rain talking about the pain that from the world we hid
Now there ain`t nobody, nowhere nohow gonna ever understand me the way you did
Maybe you`ll be out there on that road somewhere, in some bus or train traveling along, in some motel room there`ll be a radio playing and you`ll hear me sing this song
Well, if you do, you`ll know I`m thinking of you and all the miles in between and
I`m just calling one last time
Not to change your mind, but just to say I miss you baby, good luck, goodbye Bobby Jean
– Bruce Springsteen <Born In The U.S.A>
Now ten years pass by, I don’t keep in touch with him. In fact, I never see him again. Except one time I go on shopping in the street, a man passed me by. I recognized that it was him ammediately. I didn’t call him anyway. To be honest, I have forgotton his name.
I don’t know whether he recognized me or not. However it doesn’t matter. At the moment, the 60’s band, the song was flowing
through my mind.
